age to buy a tortoise

Hi, a friend of mine has just bought a marginated tortoise that hatched in Aug 2010 (approx 7 months old). I think its a bad buy as its so young. What do you think?

I got my tortoise when he was 1year and 7mnths the breeders where very sure tha was the age that he should come to us

This should be fine. A reptile is not a mammal. Baby tortoises have to care for themselves in the wild.
