Aggressive male

Hi

We have just inherited 2 Russian tortoises, one male, one female. They are around 2 years old. We have found that the (smaller) male is biting the female - we have had to separate them, because as soon as they are put together he really goes for her, biting her hard anywhere he can, particularly the back legs. Is there any advice from any vets or experts about what we can do about this? We've read in various books and websites that they can really tear chunks out of each other, but would be devastated if they did. Any advice gratefully received. Vicky

I had the same problem. Personally u will need to keep them seperated giving then chances to see each other in the day mabe and hour or so but if the male does start getting violent take him out straight away and leave out of contact for the rest of the day. I had a the same problem took 6 months to stop the male getting violent but all worked out in the end thinking of breeding now so ill see were that takes me. Hope this helps.
