Annoying scraping of house walls and doors

My tortoise will walk right on the edge of the house scraping his shell against the stucco. Then when he comes across a door with a window he will stop and turn toward the door and start scratching at it... Why does he do this and is there anything I could do to deter this behavior......?

Scraping

Your Tortoise does not feel safe and he is trying to get inside, get a enclosure that he can get into large enough for him that is enclosed and I also put a heater inside that keeps him just warm enough to feel comfortable and safe. I also have a door on mine and open it in the morning. He climbs into it when the sun goes down and comes out to eat and forage in the day. I have a wooden dog house with a door and mine are very happy and will not try to go anywhere else...they have their own home and they are thriving!
