Baby Musk turtle doesn't seem well.

by Jus
(Yorkshire, UK)

Me and my partner bought a baby Musk turtle from a reputable retailer just over a week ago. I was concerned at the time as his skin appeared to be peeling, but my partner researched it and said it was normal shedding. Since then, his eyes seem to have swollen slightly and be whitish, and he is acting really sluggish, sleeping a lot and not moving very much when on his raft. Do you know what may be wrong???

New Pet
by: Shelly

It's always a good idea to take a new pet to see a vet. Even if all you do is get to know the vet a little, it's a good thing. But often you can cut of problems that might develop into something serious.

I can't say for sure what's wrong, but if this animal was living with me, I'd want it to have some medical attention. The combination of symptoms suggests a problem, possibly an infection or a vitamin deficiency, or both.

The eyes, especially, are troubling. A blind tortoise can't find its food.

My best suggestion is to see a vet as soon as you can. Besides getting a good diagnosis, you'll get good information on treatment and ongoing care.

It would be great if you could post back here to let us know what happens.

Keep it slow and steady.
