after a soak in a warm bath for maybe 15 mins all they seem to want to do is hide and sleep

It seems they hide when going into the viv. They are playing before that. I'm not sure what is going on. (You didn't say what kind of tortoises you have, for example.) But if they are playing around when you take them out, I don't think the bath is hurting them.
