California Desert Tortoise and a Leopard Tortoise

by Lori C

I have 3 young California Desert Tortoises (2, 5 and 6 years old) and just acquired a 2 year old Leopard tortoise. I have read it is not a good idea to house them together, but has anyone done it? It certainly would be alot easier to have them live together but I have health concerns. Anyone have any experience with these two types of tortoises?

PLEASE do not keep them together, disease transmission is a very real issue and both are very susceptible to the pathogens the other species can carry and you can wind up having them all sick and/or deceased.
Also be sure that you wash well between handling each species, do not use same food or water dishes, etc. etc.
