Change of tank and baby pond turtles won't open their eyes

by Tamara Hallis

We changed our two baby pond turtles from one tank to a new set up tank and they stopped eatting and stopped opening their eyes. I have had them out of the tank for two days and kept them outside in the sunshine for a few hours. Rinse their eyes with saline solution and still they aren't opening their eyes in the water. The last time they ate was last Saturday.

Swollen eyes
by: Shelly

The eye problem needs medical attention as soon as possible. The vet may be able to give you a better idea of what went wrong. One guess would be that the cloudy water contained elements that infected the eyes and that the problem only showed up when you changed the water.

In any case, the vet will know whether you need Vitamin A or antibiotics, or both.

Please let us know what happens.

Keep it slow and steady.

Pond Turtle Eyes
by: Tamara

The baby turtles were in a tank in the house and I have not changed to a larger tank. The water was cloudy and now is clean. The eyes are swollen and they haven't eaten for one week. We have used Saline solution and now eye cream.

maybe he doesnt like the water? Are you using the same water from your pond? Don't use any mineral water. Just use plain natural water.
