Chinese striped turtle

by Amanda
(Malta)

i have 2 water turtles - Chinese striped water turtles, and they're still young (4 cm), but i've been noticing white dots on one of them on the skin, and yesterday half its tail fell off!!!!, it had a really long tail like the other one. do you think it came sick from the beginning? do you think the other one will become sick? do you think the tail will grow back?

white dots is cause from a fungus cause can be water conditions, not getting the proper UVA light, upper temperatures required, to keep his shell dry, also is he getting the propery UVB lighting which in turn helps metabolize his food, keeping his shell/bones hard to prevent Metabolic bone disease, which can weaken a limb/tail and yes he could injure that and possibly loose a limb or tail.. these are the checks and balances to ensure you have a healthy turtle..Sincerely, Susan.

If one of your turtles is sick, you need to separate them right away to keep the other one healthy.

I'm sorry I don't know enough about your type of turtle, but I don't know of any turtle that loses its tail naturally.

One other idea is that one turtle bit the other turtle's tail off. If that's the case, it's another reason to separate them.

Good luck.
