filmy eyes

I brought my baby Russian to the vet yesterday because he has filmy eyes and won't eat. His stool was clear. The vet gave him fluids and put antibiotic ointment on his eyes. He wants me to put vitamin A drops on his eyes 3 times a day, keep him warm, and call him back in a couple days if there is no progress.
Does this sound right? He seems like a wonderful vet but I've learned to always get second and third opinions when it comes to my little guys.
