How the Hermann's tortoise got its name by: Shelly
The Hermann's tortoise is named for Johann or Jean Hermann. He was a French professor of medicine at the University of Strasbourg in the late eighteenth century. He was also a naturalist.
After he died, his large zoological collection went into the Strasbourg Museum.
