Hibernating or not alive

by Margaret

My tortoise may be hibernating, but it is so stiff and cold I am really anxious that he may be dead. His heat plate wasn`t on and the temperature was bordering 60o I didn`t feel he had eaten much on Tuesday or Wednesday, but in retrospect I am now not sure if it had just withered a little and just looked like he had eaten a little. On Thursday I moved him to a warmer room and ensured the heat plate was on. Last night although he still hasn`t moved, he had actually passed water. He is 2 and a half. Please tell me how I can attempt to get him out of hibernation.

I thought if I kept him warm, that he would come out of hibernation. He still isn`t waking.

If your tortoise is hibernating, you don't want it to be warming up.
