hi there i have 3 hermanns tortoise and was just wandering if it is normal for them to always want to be hidden? if they are either indoors or outdoors they seem to eat then go back into there shelter and show no interest in basking in the sun or the uv bulb.

yes tortoises only come out to eat and when they get too hot (or too cold) they go back into hiding, I have just read a report by a man from Tortoise Trust who has been observing them and he said they are only out on the move for about 3 hours a day.
