How can I tell if my Russian tortoise is female or male?

How can I tell if my Russian tortoise is female or male?

I have searched the internet for an answer but haven't been successful. However, I think my tortoise is female she has stubby tail, but she held it to the side (this what male does, that's why I can't tell)

I read that a female has a short straight tail and a male has a longer tail that he carries to one side. The male will have a hook on the end also.

Have you tried looking at photos online to compare your tortoise with those that have been identified? You often need to see one tail compared with another tail to know which is which.

my russian tortoise tail is short and stubby but quiet large from the pic ive seen. is it a male or a female.

a female russian will have a shorter tail with a small * on the bottom of it, a male will have round and longer tail. Females will hold their tail to the side but the side they choose will change and sometimes it will not be to a side. The males usually favor a side and will keep their tail there.
