How to know he's happy.. or not

I just got a Sulcata tortise..
I just want to know what to look for to see if he is happy. Today I gave him a "bath" I was told to let him soak in a little bit of warm water. He totally came out, closed his eyes, then looked like he was swallowing a lot ( his head was not underwater at all) I just want to make sure that this is a sign of happiness or enjoying the bath, or is he absolutely scared???

What do they do to show emotions.
