I lost my tortoise

One day just like any other day I put my Golden Greek Tortoise out side (in my back yard) for sun basking.

My family and I went to a party that afternoon. When we came back that evening (about three hours later) I went to the yard to put the tortoise inside and I couldn’t find it. Soon it got dark and I decided to look for it the next day. The next morning I went outside to find the tortoise, and I couldn’t find it anywhere. I checked for burrows or any hideout where he could be in, but it was no use. I checked with my neighbors I couldn’t find it in their yard neither. Can anyone help? Any where I should look for? Where could he be hiding? It’s been more than a week since I lost it.

I actually thought the same thing, because I looked everywhere and I couldn?t find it,
and as you mentioned, they are quite valuable, but I don?t suspect anyone in my neighborhood to do something like that.
Anyway, thank you for your good wishes and advice.

I?m very well aware of these tortoises love for digging; however, I took all the precautions in providing a protected enclosure and I actually reinforced the entire back yard with wooden structure and cinder blocks as you mentioned. And, by the way, thank you for your good wishes and advice.

I will continue my search!

could anyone have got over and stolen it they are quite valuable if the weather isn't really hot enough she could have burrowed down and will stay there until it gets hot enough, good luck.

My Greek Tortoises love to dig, look under bushes, low plants, and anywhere the ground is soft enough to dig. They get scared by other animals, birds, cats etc. and try to find safety. Good Luck! They should be put into enclosures that are protected by any other animals and the enclosure should be reinforced by a block or wooden structure they can't climb out of or under.
