Is my pet a turtle or a tortoise?

My friend's dog found a turtle/tortoise on the side of a hill in Hawaii. He gave it to me, but I'm not sure what it is. Could you please help me to identify what it is? I looked up pictures and it looks like a box-turtle but it has red spots on its fore legs. Can you please look at the photos and try your best to give me as much info that you can; or tell me what I should do to help my pet.
