I got my red footed tortoise not too long ago. At the beginning he seemed fun and active. moved around a lot. Ever since I gave/made him a little hut all he seems to do is stay in there. His appetite is low and will only eat when I feed him myself with my hands. His eye seems to be shut but when I put him in water it eventually opens back up. I don't know what's happening. Help?
They eye problem alone could lead to death. As you have noticed, your pet will eat only when you hand feed. Turtles and tortoises need good vision to find food.
Also, infections in one part of the body can impact other parts.
A vet will do a complete examination and tell you exactly what you need to do to restore your pet to full health.
