by Trevor Cole

I have a spur-thighed tortoise he i s over 60 years old and has recently lost his friend who we had for 20 years. Within the last three days he has stopped eating and doesn't seem to want to come out of his hide. He is spending much of his time asleep. what should i do?

i understand your pain and i think that this is happening because of your tortoises depression of the loss of his friend. think of it if you lost a friend you would do the same thing right? well i think that you should get one close to the age of your 20 year old turtle and close enough into looking like him/her. your tortoise might feel better. WARNING!: do NOT replace the old tortoise right away. replace it AFTER your older tortoise feels better so that it can get ready to tart a new relation ship with your new pet! have fun and take the warning seriously thank you for your time!

Give your pet time to adjust to the new situation. Create gentle stimulations (food treats or a new feature in the environment) to pique your pet's interest.
