Lethargic Sulcata Tortoise

(California)

My 2 year old sucata tortoise has been very inactive lately. Its been going on for a few months, so i thought maybe just because it was winter he was slowing down for a while, but now i am very worried about him. I have a uvb light on him, but for about a month or 2 he didnt have the uv light in a low light environment due to circumstances beyond my control.

I leave lots of mushy tortoise food in his cage and i try to soak him regularly. Is he just too cold or not getting enough sunlight? I just want him to be ok.

thanks for the advice everyone. i went out and bought a uvb light, a heating bulb that doesnt emit light so i can leave it on w/o interfering with his sleeping paterns, and a blue night bulb that should help heat a little. Ill post in a day or 2 with an update :)

I would say, he needs UVA light as it doesn't sound like he has been warm enough, and also the UVB light to metabolize his food, I think if you warm him up that will help as a first step and see what happens, his eyes should be open in order to eat. I hope this helps, Sincerely, Susan..

Your pet could be missing heat or UVB light or both. If you know it is warm enough and has the proper lighting, see a vet to investigate other problems.
