we feel for our tortoise who is now coming up to 3 years old that she may be lonely would it be ok to purchase another so as to give her company we have heard that they may fight is this true.
I have many Tortises that live together and they get along very well. If they do fight separate them for a few days. All of mine really enjoy the others and I find they choose to sleep beside each other. Just be sure not to mix different breeds. Good luck...

Most tortoises do not need or want company. An exception would be the Indian star tortoise. It does well with "friends."
You will certainly not want to mix breeds. They can pass diseases to each other and you could end up with two sick animals.
