Yes, sometimes it can. Check all around the boarders of your yard. especially under bushes, flowers, Low growing trees. Sometimes I've found my dug around the roots of my trees. They are great diggers, look around for signs of digging, and look in that area. I've found mine lots of times when they get out. Good Luck!
