Lump in throat

by Matthew
(Bournemouth)

I have a juvenile common musk turtle and when it eats it seems like the food is building up in his throat, a large lump starts to appear on his neck just before his shell line.

he doesn’t seem to get too bothered about it and carries on eating and swimming around, but it doesn’t look ok.

I generally feed him pellets.

Yes, my Map turtle does the same, and he has Pellets, romaine and English cucumber as a main diet, and when he is digesting, his throat moves the food down, it is interesting to watch, he does when he is resting in the water, or on his log basking. My turtle is very healthy... Hope this rest assure that your turtle is just fine.
