Hello I have a baby 2 year old spurred thighed med tortoise, and her shell is starting to get raised at the top, the bottom of her shell is nice and flat, but the two layers above that are starting to get raised with small lumps, I feed her only weeds, dandelion leaves flowers, honey suckle flowers, plantains, clover flowers and leaves, a little slice of cucumber occasionally, never any protein, and never any other veg or fruit. I thought I was doing everything right. She does eat a lot.

Am I over feeding her?

And also, as the weather has not been to good in the summer she has not spent too much time out in the daylight.

Can you tell me how to stop this growth now, as at the moment it is not too bad.

Is there something seriously wrong with her?

Thank you,
Christina

Your tortoises shell is like that because she isnt getting enough sun light, so the temperatures not allowing the body to use the nutrients sufficiently. More sunlight directly on the shell helps or a uv lamp also works

Your tortoise is lucky to have you for a friend.

Maybe you are feeding your friend too much. You might want to check out this page.

Of course you should check with a good veterinarian, too.

Keep it slow and steady.

The very best thing you can do for your tortoise is take him or her to a vet, especially one who knows about chelonians.
