my tortoise rests alot is it ok

i have just got a tortoise and it seems to be hiding in the corner of his vivarium alot is this normal also it has just been eating and finished all the food by 10 am and produsced a white blob then eaten that as well. i am doing it right ?

The eating and eliminating (white stuff) is fine.

A vivarium is not a good place for a tortoise. Cover the sides with something opaque so the tortoise can't see out and it will be much happier.

Keep it slow and steady.
