Bathe him
by: Neese

Have you tried putting him in water, so he can rehydrate? As a reminder, tortoises can't swim...so if you are new to this, make sure that the water isn't too deep....just about up to his chin...or just a bit deeper....so his mouth is NOT submerged. I usually heat the water just a bit in the microwave, so it is comfortable to the touch. Stir the water to make sure it isn't hot, and use a water conditioner like Zoo Med Reptisafe, as directed on the bottle. This will take out the chlorine in the water. Keep him in the bath for 5-10 minutes. It is normal for a tortoise to go to the bathroom in the water...so that is normal. A white discharge is also normal. A well hydrated tortoise should feel heavy. If he doesn't...take him to the vet immediately. Dehydration is very serious. Also make sure that he has a heat lamp so he can stay warm...that is very important.

Good luck.
