Painted Turtle Soar on Head
by: Jesse

My eastern painted Turtle has a Sore on her head from were her shell was jagged in the front and was catching the top of her head rubbing it raw! I use toe nail clippers to even it out and a metal sander to smooth it out! She seems very happy and it is getting smaller! I use Peroxide and A tiny Dab of neosporin and hold her while it soaks in a bit than allow it to go back to its aquarium! Should do the trick :) Hope this helps!

Painted turtle doesn't use front right leg....
by: Seagirl

She (at least I'm pretty sure its a she) usually has it tucked in. I feel sorry for her. It's been like that for about a year but its funny cuz before i separated her from the little male, SHE was the one always beating up on HIM! What should I do?? Will it always be like that? How did it happen?

RE: my turtle has a white spot on its head
by: Stef

I had the same thing happen to my turtle but that was when I first got it and I didn't know that turtles needed a UV light and lots of water and a basking spot. Then I immediately bought all the necessary stuff and my turtle would mostly bask and it had me worried but within a few days the spot (that looked a lot like a blister) fell off by itself. I couldn't afford to take my turtle to the vet but if you can I'd recommend that

i had that issue
by: Anonymous

my turtle recently had this issue and the sites we found on line said to give your turtle a sort of "bath" with a little bit of salt (not in his tank) for 30 min a day until the spot is gone and it worked. you might want to search out the amount of salt needed though

Lime
by: jen

It sounds like it could be lime forming on your turtle, though it normally forms on shells it is possible to form on the skin and should be able to get scrubbed off. Lime forms on aquatic and semi aquatic turtles usually when the tank is not kept clean enough. If you are not able to wash the white stuff off, it would be best to take him to a vet to make sure it is not something serious.

Worrisome spot
by: Anonymous

Any time you are worried about something physical going on with your tortoise, it's a good idea to see a vet. Because a tortoise has a slow metabolism, any skin problem can take a long time to heal and can become a big problem over time. I would have this checked out.
