My turtle won't let me hold him

My turtle is a yellow belly slider that is so adorable. the problem is, he NEVER lets me hold him. He lets my best friend hold him without holing up in his shell, but with me he always hides when i pick him up. Is it me or the turtle

Turtle Handling

Watch carefully to see what your friend does. He is doing something different from what you are doing if the turtle will let the friend hold him, but not you.

Turtles don't generally want to be held, so don't force this. Be slow and gentle in all your movements.
