Hi, first of all I don't know how long you have had the turtle, but this is what I think, you have bacteria in the water...bottled water can be very questionable, even in Canada...where I am from. Now if possible order online a product called Reptisafe, it is a water conditioner, essentially it removes the Chlorine, and Chloramines, removes ammonia and helps prevent its accumulation and adds essential electrolytes, including calcium, rehydrates new arrivals and stimulates slime coat development. It is sold by a company called Zoo Med, which you can order online from a Pet store called Petsmart in the US. This would take away any worries about the safety of the water.....I have never experienced a problem in my tank with using this product, now I also have a very good filtratiion as well, it is a canister pump..and I do a daily water change. I hope this helps..sincerely, Susan.
