Geochelone sulcata

Geochelone sulcata

Santa gave me a cute Geochelone sulcata but the next morning it only had one eye opend. Its right eye remains shut and it appears to be sort of moisty/wet on that side of its face too. im really worried and dont know what to do. i washed its eye with lukewarm water (as recomended by a petshop owner) and it worked for a little while but i know it still bugs her cuz i find her trying to stratch its eye with her right thigh. any tips on what i should do?

thanks!

Yes I agree, I had a Tortoise that had the same problem and was advised by my vet to apply antibiotic drops into her eyes. I AM SO GLAD I GOT HER IN TO BE SEEN ASAP, SHE COULD OF GONE BLIND WITHOUT THIS TREATMENT...PLS TAKE YOUR NEW TORT IN ASAP...

Eye Problems

Your tortoise needs to see a vet. There is probably either a Vitamin A deficiency or an eye infection. Both are serious because they don't tend to right themselves and because a tortoise uses vision to find food. The vet will do an examination and give the correct treatment for whatever is wrong and the size of your animal. It's always a good idea to have a full physical examination any time you get a new pet in any case just to be sure everything in s OK.

I wish you and your new friend all the best.

Keep it slow and steady.
