What is the best type of substrate to use for red foot tortoises? In a indoor incloser.

sphagnum is better

sphagnum moss is better. it retains moisture much better and is healthier should the redfoot choose to graze on the substrate which they always do.

A redfoot tortoise needs humidity, and cyprus mulch will help you to retain that.
