Rescued Yellow Belly Slider Q's

My son rescued a yellow belly slider today and I wanted to figure out it's age. I know it's older and probably a male from what research I could do on it. We have a creek and could make a great habitat for him so I was looking for any suggestions about caring for him. This is my first turtle! Thanks for any help I can get!
