Russian male suddenly aggressive toward female...

by Bek
(Illinois)

I've had a male and female Russian tortoises living together peacefully for about a year. He'd chase and mount her daily, but it was never aggressive. Just last week he's been mounting her non-stop and attacking her...trying to bite her and so on. What went wrong and do I need to seperate them now?

Male bothering female
by: Shelly

The female needs a peaceful spot. If you can't guarantee her that where she is, you'll have to move her.

The male may be trying to mate, but he could also just be a bully. It's hard to say.

Keep it slow and steady.
