Russian Tortoise

We just purchased 2 russian tortoises from a local pet shop and they both seem to being doing well but the one has been scratching at his left eye on and off since we brought him home. He keeps it open most of the time but then closes it for a minute or two now and then. It doesnt look irritated-maybe just a tiny bit runny. His other eye looks fine and he has been eating/exercising rigorously, so I am not sure what to think. Does he need to see a vet or could it be a simple fix?

eye drops
by: mglover

Hi,
I just went to the pet store to buy supplies for my tortoise that I found and they had over the counter eye drops. Or maybe something is in the eye? You may have to take it to a specialty vet.

By the way, I cannot tell if my pet is desert or Russian....do you know the difference. Looking a pictures on the net is not helping me discern which type it is...

Best wishes on your tortoise's recovery.

Eye Problems
by: Shelly

An eye problem is not likely to clear up on its own. It can become very serious if not cared for by a vet.

Keep it slow and steady.
