Terrapin scratching constantly

by jon
(glos)

My 4 year old red bellied terrapin keeps scratching and staying out of the water for long periods. it seemed to start when i bought a new lamp, i was sold one that was supoposedly suitable but it wasn't a uv 10.0 one. i have the correct lamp now, it was about a month before i got the new 10 lamp. he does have a sore patch on his soft skin where he has been moving alot.

Scratching can come about for many reasons. Think of all the reasons a person could scratch. A pet has just as many reasons for scratching. If this is worrisome to you or is causing a physical problem like a lesion, take your pet to the vet. The vet will be able to see the situation and can ask you questions that will help diagnose the specific problem your pet has.

Keep it slow and steady.
