my tortoise was found on his back I'm watching for respitory distress his head is in which he never does he's afraid of me he loves to be touched but now now what else caqn I do How long can a tortoise stayed upside down

If he is not in direct sunlight or in a really hot area a Tortoise can survive for hours on his back. It sounds like he's frightened and it may take awhile before he feels safe again. Don't worry he should be your friendly Tortoise in time. Be sure to soak him any time you find him on his back and you don't know how long he's been that way. Just be patient and soft spoken and gentle with him and he'll trust you again soon. Hold him in the palm of your hand and rub his shell and talk to him. It works when mine gets frightened.
