Tortoise behaviors.

by Ceshua
(Seattle, W.A, U.S.A)

I have a female red-footed tortoise, who is fourteen years old. Lately she has been scraping her shell up against a piece of driftwood she's had in her cage for years. There are no problems with taking care of her, she gets food like spinach and strawberries, and she has a small pool to cool off in or drink from (regularly cleaned). So I guess my question is, do tortoises get itchy?

Spinach is Bad

You shouldn't feed our tortoise spinach. Spinach binds with calcium rendering it unavailable to the tortoise. Calcium is essential to the tortoises health. Try some other greens.
