Hi! I really wouldn't risk it clipping them yourself, if they're very long get a specialist to do it. Hermanns generally have longs nails, they like to dig. Is there any chance you could put some roughage in his area? I have slate and rough bark in my tortoise table and this seems to keep them down, have a look at some pictures of other hermanns so you know what's normal! Hope this helps!
