I have found my tortoise on his back several times, i was gone for about 2 hours and found him on his back, can they survive for more then a couple of hours if I was gone longer and came home and found him on his back again? I don't want anything bad to happen to my tortoise... I am concerned...thank you

If your Tortoise keeps flipping himself over, its because usually he can see out of his enclosure and wants to get out. If you have him in a glass enclosure you need to cover his seeing level with paper so he can't see thru his enclosure. A small plastic kiddie pool is great to have out doors during the day and inside at nite in your garage. You can fill it partially with alfalfa hay or another compost for them to sleep, dig and hide in. Be sure to have a protective screened top when they are outside along with a water dish/feeding dish as well as an area that has some shade for part of the enclosure. Good Luck! Your Tortoise needs room to explore and exercise. Pls make sure he also has a dry area if it rains, or of course do not put them out in inclement weather.

its usualy best if there is grass or somthing grippy to use for bedding, because if a tortoise can reach the ground it can often turn its self back over again, and if you tortoise is tipping over near the walls of the enclosure, try to make them as slippery as possible so it cant climb up an tip over, hope this helps and good luck
