TORTOISE SAFETY

by LOUISE
(REDDING CA)

FOR HOW LONG CAN A TORTOISE OR ONE OF THEIR HATCHLINGS REMAIN ON THEIR BACKS BEFORE IT WOULD HARM THEM.

I AM HELPING OUT TAKING CARE OF 5 HATCHLINGS AND TWICE DURING A 2 WEEK PERIOD DID I FIND ONE FLIPPED OVER, OF COURSE THE MOMENT I NOTICED IT I PUT THEM BACK ON THEIR BELLIES, THEY SEEM TO BE OKAY. STILL I AM WORRIED

TIA FOR ANY ANSWER, LOUISE Z

Shellie's answer

Shelly, I like to thank you for your response on the flipped over tortoise hatchlings. I do feel somewhat better, however I will keep on digging, I feel there should be some actual stats somewhere.

Thanks again, Louise Z.

Tortoise on its back
by: Shelly

In sailing days, sailors stores giant tortoises on board on their backs. It was an easy way to store fresh meat.

The tortoises weren't comfortable, but they lived for a long time on their backs.

I imagine that smaller animals will be able to survive for a shorter time.

Keep it slow and steady.
