turtle dead or alive?

ok well i have a baby painted turtle and he wasnt moving so i took him out of the tank and his eyes were closed and his head was just kind of flopping all over the place? can u please tell me if hes dead or just hibernating?? please help!!! i love my turtle >3

Your painted turtle could hibernate only if the temperature dropped enough. It sounded to me like your turtle is indoors. Unless your house gets very cold, it's unlikely the turtle would hibernate.

Even a hibernating turtle will withdraw it's leg a little if you tug on it gently.
