turtle dirt?

i have a red eared slider turtle that my mother rescued.. it is sick becasue it has swollen eyes. until we can take it to the vet we wanted to know how to treat it at home. also, we do not have a tank so i have him in a box with with a food dish and a smaller container full with water. the water doesnt go over his head so he can still breathe.. plz help.. i would love to keep him but if we cant get him better than we are planning to give him to a store called Predators, as recomended by a Petco worker. thank you so much
