Broken shell on desert tortoise needs vet
by: Don Williams

Hi,
You need to get your tortoise to a QUALIFIED EXPERIENCED tortoise vet ASAP. Along with possible issues with the shell any open area of skin or internal structure can be subject to what is called Fly Strike, where a fly lays eggs and maggots grow. Can very easily result in death of the tortoise.
If you do not have a vet that you KNOW is experienced with this treatment, recommend that you join yahoo group at
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/vets_for_herps/?yguid=331966954 which is not an e-mail group, is immediate acceptance, and you click on the Files link on the left of the home page and it brings up files listing vets world wide that are recommended by fellow turt and tortoise keepers.
Just follow the links from Files-Country-State-City and contact who is near you.
good luck and please separate the dog and tortoise at all times, is an often dangerous situation and sometimes fatal for the tortoise.
