Turtle's Growth

Are these Sonoran Desert Tortoises?
Our tutles were born at the same time but one is growing at a much faster pace. I was worried that the larger one was keeping the smaller one from eating and so we separated them for a time. Or could it be that one is male/one is female? They are about 1 year old. Also, could you confirm that they are Sonoran Desert Tortoises?
