Unusual behaviour in Map Turtle

by Katie Anderson
(Warwickshire)

Hello there,
I have an eight year old, female Map Turtle called Murtle. When I woke this morning, she was not tapping on the glass for food or being her normal lively self but basking with her head as far inside her head as it can go and her legs wrapped around her shell. Do you have a diagnosis for this behaviour or is it perfectly natural?

Many Thanks,
Katie Anderson

Behaviour Change
by: Shelly

You didn't say how long you have had your turtle. If you've had her eight years, and this is new behaviour, then you are seeing a change that could be important. If you have had her only for a few days, the change may not be as significant because she would be settling in. Of course it's important to note any changes in behaviour, even over the short term.

When you are worried about your pet, the very best thing you can do is see a vet. The vet can examine your pet and talk to you about its history and environment.

It's best to see a vet who knows about your animal, but any vet is better than no vet.

Keep it slow and steady.
