How can I find my Redfoot Tortoise?!? by: Anonymous
I've had my redfoot for a year and a half now, his name is Yogi. I just moved to a new house about 4 hours from where i used to live. I have a metal fenced in yard section that isn't too huge that i would let my little baby play around in during the day. The first two days i would put him near the back of the yard and check on him every hour or so an he would only move a short distance and burrow himself in the taller grass. The third day i let him out i checked on him an hour later and he was still there by a tree then i saw it was about to rain so about 30 min later i went back outside to go bring him in but he was gone! I've looked all over the yard at least 10 times and felt all through the grass and looked in the perimeter of the forest line where it gets very dense. I an scared he crawled to to woods to hide and now it impossible to find him :( what should i do?

My sister got three tortoises from out aunt and the female had escaped in the summer. They live near a road. After four months my cousin was mowing the lawn and saw her. When they brought the tortoise inside it was fine except for a couple extra chips in the shell.

We lost our tortoise today. I am so upset. It is getting chilly out. Looked tonight till dark will look again tomorrow thanks for the tips is it possible any animals could get her? Skunks raccoons ?

I got a greek baby one month ago, and then called the place I got him, and asked if they thought he needs a friend??? The man said yes that Mumford would enjoy that, they seem to like each other however I now was reading when they get to maturity they will fight:( is this true or is every situation different????

Hi I lost my Russian tortoise many times and found her every time but what helped me is I know the places where she likes to sun bath and that is where I always find her. Hope this helped!

Hi there,not sure about their instints. Our tortoise was hiding at the base of the tree in our backyard. They are very deceiving because how much they camouflage themselves with their shell. We looked in the same areas at least a dozen times and finally found her. Good Luck!

Hi there! Thank you so much for your help.She was under the base of our big oak tree in the corner of our backyard! She had to spend the night outside but she survived!! Thank you so much for your help! :) We are so relieved,thanks again!!

they like to get under high weeds.i have a redfoot and a russian tortoise. i take them outside once in a while.two weeks ago i had them out and the russian tortoise came up missing,i couldn't find him. he was found 4 days later under the bush by the house,he was ok,he must have ate weeds to keep alive. good luck.
