yellow belly slider doesn't eat

My Yellow Belly Slider turtle will not eat. He goes through brief periods of not eating anything. I have tried different foods and everything. Help!
Background: I rescued this turtle about a year and a half ago from drying up outside of my school. He still fits in my palm, but is a lot larger then when I first found him.
